For my research, I wanted a psychedelic background that’s both hypnotic and colorful. I want the background to be esthetically pleasing on the eyes and mesmerizing at the same time. It is the overall book cover background.
This guitar represents the musical aspect of Woodstock for my book cover.
The peace sign represents the coming together and the wings represents the freedom that people have at the event known as Woodstock
I’m going to be using three different types of text for the words “Peace, Harmony, Unity”. The text is going to be Mystery Quest, Hendrix Groove, and Peace.
Megan Hickey: Overview
- Woodstock is known as one of the greatest happenings of all time and –perhaps-the most pivotal moment in music history.
- In August 1969, the Woodstock Music & Art Fair took place on a dairy farm inBethel, NY. Over half a million people came to a 600-acre farm to hear 32 acts (leading and emerging performers of the time) play over the course of four days (August 15-18)
- “Counterculture generation”
- Woodstock the Peanuts character is named after the Woodstock festival, tying into the design
- Woodstock centered on the idea of “Peace, Love and Music,” as well as being heavily attended by people who were under the influence, therefore contributing. to hippy designs, psychedelic imagery and more.
- Using fonts from DaFont.com, I have settled on using “Bittermilk” font that aligns well with themes from the seventies.
- I’m debating changing my color scheme to make more of a hippy vibe rather thanpsychedelic regarding the book cover

Zachary Hill: Design Ideas
- Font: Keep on Truckin, Mystery Tour Regular, Boeklins Universe Regular
- Idea(s): Jimi Hendrix background, title in top right corner
- Circular rainbow with curved title: “A Short, Strange Trip” (a play on a lyric from Grateful Dead’s “Truckin’”)
- Peace sign and Vietnam-era helicopter in background, seeing as Vietnam took a backseat to Woodstock in 1969
- Picture(s): pictogram-2426390_1280.jpg
- RAAF_UH-1D_of_9_Sqn_in_Vietnam_1970.jpg
- Back cover: a blurb about the correlation between rock and roll, Vietnam, and how the two came together to become Woodstock (an anti-war music festival focusing on free love). Not sure about the design, yet, but I’ll get there.

Designing a statement:
- Who is the Target Audience? This drives the color scheme and font choices.
- What is the purpose/the message of the design? [what feeling(s) will the design need to portray?
- What are the design specs?
- Background color to use.
- Color schemes. [If your client does not like a particular color, or font, you will not be able to persuade them to use the design choices they dislike – no matter how great.]
- Tagline.
- Specific symbol or image to use.
- Symbols or images to avoid.
- Simple design or abstract?
- Are there any other special considerations?
- Review and study the competitive companies’ designs/ summarize the similarities and/or differences. [meaning, you are writing in “what distinguishes you from other designs related to this project.]
